Why do I need an SSL Certificate? I’m not selling anything…

It’s pretty much a given that since Google made it a priority that EVERY website out there be secured, having an SSL certificate on your website has become a requirement. It doesn’t matter whether you’re selling something online, using a contact form to gather contact information or even just using your website to share information. Google will give more preference in it’s Search Engine Optimization if that website is secured behind an SSL certificate on the hosting server. “How do I know if I have one?” – you may ask. The answer is simple. If you see a padlock at the top of your browser (next to the URL bar) when on your website, then your site is secured! Why is my Outlook suddenly asking for my GMail password?

Recently, Google has started rolling out 2-factor authentication for all GMAIL accounts. This is being pushed out without any opt-in by users because they believe it to be stronger protection against your email account getting hacked.  In truth, this actually is a really good idea. However, some of our hosting clients noted that while their Outlook works fine with their Lions Mane hosted emails, their GMAILS wouldn’t come through as Outlooks keeps prompting them for their password, even though it’s correct! The solution is to disable 2-factor authentication within the GMAIL settings. We don’t particularly recommend doing that, but if that little pop-up is driving you nuts, then this might be a workaround until Microsoft can fix the issue within Outlook.

What’s this I hear about GoDaddy’s data breach????

GoDaddy and various hosting companies who use GoDaddy’s infrastructure were compromised recently, due to some really poor management choices.  They have apologized profusely, and are making changes to protect against such challenges going forward. If you host your website through GoDaddy, you may want to be sure you change your account and sFTP passwords ASAP!  If you don’t know how to do this, just give them a call – they’re very helpful!
